Joseph N. Cotilletta

Joseph N. Cotilletta joined The Lanier Law Firm as an associate in 2014 and practices in the areas of asbestos litigation, toxic torts, mass torts, and product liability. Prior to joining The Lanier Law Firm, Mr. Cotilletta was an associate at a law firm on Long Island, New York, where he practiced in a wide variety of substantive areas of personal injury law, including mass torts, toxic torts, and products liability. Mr. Cotilletta was the lead associate of a mass tort action for over 100 workers at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and was instrumental in creating the first case management order that will be used for decades to come in that litigation.

Mr. Cotilletta has significant litigation experience, which includes trials, appeals, arbitrations/mediations, and hundreds of depositions. In 2014, Mr. Cotilletta was named to the Super Lawyers New York Metro Rising Stars, an honor given to no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in New York State.

Mr. Cotilletta received his Juris Doctor from The Pennsylvania State University, The Dickinson School of Law in 2011, where he served as an Articles Editor on the Penn State International Law Review and published the article Comparing Constitutional Constraints on Government Searches: The United States and Hong Kong, 29 PENN. ST. INT’L L. REV. 147 (2010). Mr. Cotilletta was also Executive Vice-Chairman of the Penn State Moot Court Board and a member of the American Association for Justice Trial Team, where he advanced to his region’s semifinals. Throughout his law school career, Mr. Cotilletta interned with various district attorneys’ offices and judges and most notably interned for the Honorable Kim R. Gibson of the Western District of Pennsylvania. Mr. Cotilletta served as a research assistant for Professor Louis Del Duca and contributed to the article Online Small Claim Dispute Resolution Developments – Progress On A Soft Law for Cross‑Border Consumer Sales and the Development of A Global Consumer Law Forum, 43 UCC L.J. 419 (2010) (with Colin Rule & Daniel Nagel).

Upon graduation, Penn State Law awarded Mr. Cotilletta with an induction into the Order of Barristers, a national honor society providing recognition for individuals who have excelled in oral advocacy and brief writing at their respective schools.

Mr. Cotilletta received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bryant University in 2008, where he was a member and captain of the Men’s Lacrosse team.

Mr. Cotilletta is admitted to the New York and New Jersey State bars. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
