Attorney Spotlight – Michael A. Akselrud

Each month, we like to feature one of our attorneys to help you get to know our team better. We sat down with one of our Los Angeles attorneys, Michael A. Akselrud, to talk about his background in the legal field and what he is currently working on.

What led you to a legal career?

I have always thought of myself as a problem solver. My parents might say that I like to argue. As a lawyer, I get to problem solve every single day. It is all I do, with a little bit of arguing here and there.

What has been your most interesting or memorable case and why?

There are many but participating in the record-breaking Talcum Powder trial in St. Louis last summer was certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity. There are so many memorable moments, from the tornado warnings and evacuation in the middle of trial, to the sight of our clients when the verdict was announced. Although I am deeply saddened by the passing of several of our talcum powder clients, I am proud of the fact that we were able to help them tell their story. On her death bed, one of our clients who participated in trial told me that she lived as long as she did to be able to tell her story and to hopefully stop this from happening to anyone else. She told me that this would not have been possible without our firm. I know that memories like this will stick with me forever.

What litigation are you currently working on?

I am currently working on the Talcum Powder litigation representing victims of ovarian cancer who have been exposed to cosmetic talcum powder products. I am also working on the 3M Dual-Ended Combat Arms earplugs representing current and former Service Members of the U.S. Military who were provided faulty earplugs which should have, but failed to, prevent hearing loss and tinnitus.

What are one or two things about you that most people don’t know?

Most people don’t know that I don’t have a car. Living in Los Angeles, that makes me an outlier, but I prefer to walk and take public transportation.
