Randy Lowry is a nationally recognized dispute resolution attorney with over 40 years of experience. He has settled disputes for nonprofit corporations and Fortune 500 companies, including Nike, State Farm Insurance Company, and Chevron.
Mr. Lowry is a pioneer and international leader in alternative dispute resolution, mediation, and reconciliation. As an accomplished law professor and a renowned former university president, he brings his vast experience and knowledge to the Lanier Law Firm to serve as settlement counsel to help parties in complex litigation resolve conflicts and avoid expensive courtroom battles.

Community and Professional Activities
Randy Lowry served as a tenured law professor at Pepperdine University for nearly 20 years, from 1986 until 2005, and has provided negotiation training, consulting, mediation, and settlement counsel services in more than 40 states and six continents. He has taught law as a visiting professor at institutions of higher education around the world, including the following :

- Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota
- The University of Modena in Modena, Italy
Every year, Mr. Lowry teaches over 4,000 lawyers, judges, and managers in more than 25 states and many foreign countries. He is the co-author of three books on conflict resolution.
Mr. Lowry has mediated complex cases in multi-million dollar civil and public policy disputes in the United States and foreign countries, including Nairobi, Kenya. He also provides consulting services for government and private organizations on managing conflict resolution effectively.
A Trailblazer in Conflict Resolution
Randy Lowry founded the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law. He also co-founded the Southern California Mediation Association, an organization focused on supporting and educating the conflict resolution community that has since supported thousands of mediators. In 1990, he helped establish the Ventura Center for Dispute Settlement in California.
Mr. Lowry’s knowledge and experience in dispute resolution also won him the attention of government officials, many of whom hired him in an official capacity:
- The California governor appointed him to the California Dispute Resolution Advisory Council, a public organization establishing California’s dispute resolution programs.
- The Chief Justice of California appointed him to the Blue Ribbon Committee on Arbitration Ethics.
- He served on the Judicial Council’s task force on the Quality of Justice.
Worldwide Acclaim
Mr. Lowry is a well-known legal figure worldwide. While working as a professor at Pepperdine University, he established an international academic program in dispute resolution. He introduced mediation to India and trained judges in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has worked for the legal community in the Netherlands and provided consulting services for an international law firm in Asia.
Mr. Lowry has also served as vice president of Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services (JAMS), the world’s largest private alternative dispute resolution provider, which handles 19,000 cases around the globe every year.
An Accomplished College President
Mr. Lowry served as the President of Mark Lanier’s alma mater, Lipscomb University, in Nashville, Tennessee, from 2005 through 2021. Under his leadership, Lipscomb University became one of the top universities in the southeast. Enrollment nearly doubled, and the school’s academic offerings and facilities have expanded to a level that has made Lipscomb University a national leader in higher Christian education. Randy Lowry left a lasting impression at Lipscomb University, having earned a reputation as a visionary and an innovative leader.

Personal Background
Mr. Lowry is a devout Christian who regularly lectures at Bible conferences. He has given keynote addresses to hundreds of prestigious church groups and Christian conferences on conflict resolution, including at Faulkner University, Abilene Christian University, Pepperdine University, Oklahoma Christian University, and Rochester College. He has served as a member of the board of trustees of Abilene Christian University and as chairman of Sunset Haven Christian Care Centers.
He has educated thousands of Christian leaders in conflict resolution and reconciliation. He has helped church congregations and parishioners resolve disputes and created programs for numerous Churches of Christ while teaching at Pepperdine University.
Randy Lowry lives with his wife Rhonda, who served on the faculty in the College of Bible and Ministry at Lipscomb University while he was president. They have three children and nine grandchildren.
