Dallas Jury Returns $1 Billion Plus Verdict in Defective DePuy Hip Implants Lawsuit

Attorney Mark Lanier: Third MDL bellwether trial sends strong message

DALLAS – A federal jury in Dallas has returned a combined verdict of more than $1 billion on behalf of six people who suffered serious medical complications caused by defective metal-on-metal hip implants made by Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) and its subsidiary DePuy Orthopaedics Inc.

The verdict includes more than $30 million in actual damages for the six plaintiffs and more than $1 billion in punitive damages assessed against Johnson & Johnson and DePuy.

EpiPen Maker Mylan Hit With Class-Action Lawsuit

Lawsuit seeks damages for Mylan’s unconscionable sales tactics

HOUSTON – A class-action lawsuit filed against pharmaceutical giant Mylan Inc. (NASDAQ: MYL) seeks damages for consumers victimized by the company’s cutthroat sales and marketing tactics related to controversial price increases for Mylan’s EpiPen injectors.

The lawsuit filed by The Lanier Law Firm and Sharp Law on behalf of consumers who have purchased EpiPen injectors charges that Mylan began a series of aggressive price increases shortly after it acquired the rights to sell the EpiPen in 2007. Mylan required consumers to purchase the EpiPen in pairs and raised the retail price from $57 in 2007 to more than $600 today, even though pharmaceutical industry sources estimate each injector can be produced for less than $30.

Lanier Law Firm Representing Gas Royalty Owners in Class Action Against BP

Oklahoma royalty owners being shortchanged by energy giant, lawsuit says

HOUSTON – The Lanier Law Firm has filed a proposed federal class-action lawsuit against a subsidiary of energy giant BP PLC based on claims that the company improperly deducted processing and other charges from natural gas royalties that are owed to a group of royalty owners in Oklahoma.

The FDA Issues a Hip Recall for MicroPort Orthopedics

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Class 1 hip replacement recall for the PROFEMUR Neck Varus/Valgus CoCr 8 Degree (Part number PHAC 1254), which is manufactured by MicroPort Orthopedics. MicroPort Orthopedics has a variety of hip joint replacement systems that allow the surgeon to fit the implant specifically to the patient. The PROFEMUR Neck Varus/Valgus CoCR, part number PHAC1254 is the modular neck being recalled.
