The widely available talc-based baby powder product is now under recall in 35 states due to possible asbestos contamination, up from 12 states when the recall was first announced in September.
Dynarex Corp. initially recalled 62 cases of its Dynacare Baby Powder in September after routine FDA sampling found asbestos in a batch distributed in 14-ounce bottles.
In late October, the company announced it had expanded the recall to include over 1,000 more cases of the baby powder, containing both 14- and 4-ounce bottles, over potential asbestos contamination. According to an announcement posted on the FDA’s website, the Dynacare products were distributed to 35 states and sold directly on Amazon.
The company said it had investigated further and found additional lots of Dynacare Baby Powder contained the same potentially tainted talc material that prompted the original recall. The expanded recall covers 373 cases of 14-ounce bottles and 647 cases of 4-ounce bottles.
Mark Lanier, founder of The Lanier Law Firm, said the news doesn’t absolve pharmaceutical companies like Dynarex from failing to act sooner.
“This recall is late! Companies have known, and courts have found that talc-based products have asbestos. They are reckless for not recalling years ago!”– Mark Lanier

Talc, or talcum powder, is a versatile, naturally occurring mineral used in various personal care products. However, asbestos and talc deposits are usually found near each other, creating the potential for contamination. Asbestos is a carcinogen that is known to directly cause mesothelioma and other aggressive forms of cancer in exposed individuals.
When contaminated with asbestos, talc has been linked to various cancers, prompting thousands of lawsuits against pharmaceutical giants and billions of dollars in verdicts awarded to victims.
The Lanier Law Firm has a proven track record of getting results in pharmaceutical liability cases, including a $2.1 billion verdict over claims linking talc products to mesothelioma and ovarian cancer.
